Shanghai World Expo comes to a close

BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhuanet) --The 184-day World Expo has concluded with a spectacular closing ceremony. Sunday's gala is viewed in China, as another event of national pride, after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The closing ceremony was held at the Expo Cultural Center at the World Expo Park in Shanghai.


Premier Wen Jiabao and other dignitaries from around the world attended the ceremony.

Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan delivered the ceremony's opening address.

Wang Qishan, Chinese Vice Premier, said, "I am convinced that the vision of 'Better City, Better Life' will become reality."

International Exhibitions Bureau President Jean-Pierre Lafon also hailed the Expo a triumphant success.

Jean-Pierre Lafon, President of International Exhibitions Bureau, said, "Shanghai shows that with talented organization, willingness to succeed and an excellent international communication campaign, a World Expo always brings out a true fascination."
