Acting Consul General Ding Qiao Meets with President of SARF

On October 23, 2019, Acting Consul General Ding Qiao,at the Chinese Consulate General, met with the President of South African Religious Forum Bishop Selven Govender, who is also a member of National Interfaith Council of SA . Wang Hailong, vice consul of the Consulate was present.

                                               

Ding Qiao briefly introduced China's basic policy of Respecting and protecting freedom of religious belief, saying that religion is of great significance on maintaining social stability, national unity and state security. All normal religious activities are protected by law. Chinese Government does not interfere in the internal affairs of religions, but bans illegal religious activities.

 

Religion played an important role in the political and economic life of South Africa, said Selven Govender. He hoped to learn more about the main religious sects and strengthen exchanges with Chinese clerical personnel. He also appreciated the relief efforts from Chinese Embassy and Consulate in providing a large sum of disaster relief goods with Chinese Speed when Kwazulu-Natal was hit by the floods this April.
