Chinese Consulate in Durban Celebrated the International Women's Day with Local Community

On March 8,2021, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Durban held a virtual gathering to commemorate the International Women's Day. Attendees include Her Majesty MPume the Zulu Queen, Ms Shameen Thakur Rajbansi (member of KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature), Ms Fawzia Peer (Councillor and former Deputy Mayor of the eThekwini Municipality) and more than 30 guests from the local community.

                                                              

 

Madam Li Wenjun, wife of Consul General and moderator of the event, welcomed guests and briefed on the theme of the gathering "TCM, Qipao and SHE power Against COVID-19". She also thanked the five guest speakers and believed their sharing would help empower all present at the meeting.

                                                               

Dr Dai Dechun, Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor of the 16th Chinese Medical Brigade to Guyana introduced the basic methods on Traditional Chinese Medicine and the commonly practised health care skills. Ms Jiang Xinyun, founder of Jiang Qipao explained about the origin of Qipao (cheongsam), its design and patterns as well as related etiquette for wearing Qipao. Queen MPume elaborated on role of women in education and functions of traditional medicine in epidemic prevention and cure. Councillor Peer stressed that the epidemic had a huge impact on the general population and women could play a leading role in caring for the poor. Ms Ji Yanfeng from the local Chinese community shared her family story in fighting the pandemic and assured that everyone is a hero against COVID-19.

 

The Q and A session followed presentations. Attendees showed amazing interest in speakers' sharing and inspiration.
