Chinese Film Festival

2009-08-20

To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China,  the Chinese Consulate-General in Durban hosts the First-ever Chinese Film Festival in KwaZulu-Natal in collaboration with the Durban University of Technology. The opening ceremony was launched in DUT on 18 August 2009.

As the relations between China and South Africa develop, the two peoples are eager to know more about each other, especially in the area of Language, culture and art. We are keen to establish more bridges for cultural exchanges, especially between our young generations. After Westville Boys' High School signed a MOU with Chinese Hanban to establish a Chinese Class, hosting a Chinese Film Festival is very necessary and will meet the needs of our South African friends who are interested in China and its Culture.

The festival runs for 4 weeks, show-casing China's talent in Cinematography.  Twelve movies are scheduled to be screened in various DUT campuses throughout the festival.  Movies to feature vary from Comedy, Romance, Documentary and Tragedy.  The 12 fmovies are carefully picked by the Chinese Consulate-General and the DUT, which are award-winning and well acknowledged movies in and abroad China. We believe the Chinese Film Festival can increase South African people's understanding of China and Chinese Culture.

At the opening ceremony, the Chinese Consulate General have presented 150 books to the library of DUT, mainly introductions of Chinese provinces and cities, traditional customs, and social development, which provide useful and practical information of China.

We warmly welcome you and your friends to join us in celebrating this event.
